Egyptian telecommunications provider, Telecom Egypt, has paid $150 million for a 15-year license to obtain Egypt's first 5G license from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA).
WE Mobile, the leading internet service provider in the Nile state is owned and operated by Telecom Egypt. WE mobile was introduced in 2017 after Telecom Egypt obtained an LTE network license in October 2016.
In September 2017, the Egyptian internet provider debuted its first commercial service, an LTE-only mobile network over a 5 MHz channel in the B3 (1800 MHz) band.
“Being the first company to receive this license also reinforces the strength of our infrastructure and our ability to provide the best service in the market. Our capital expenditure over the past few years is bearing fruit. We plan to leverage our licenses to our advantage to enhance the customer experience, fulfill the expectations of both consumers and businesses, while maximizing shareholder value,” said Telecom Egypt managing director and CEO, Mohamed Nasr
