In the battle against COVID-19, data was essential. The National Department of Health (NDoH) was able to identify and limit outbreaks, shape public health policy, and eventually restrict the spread of the virus because of contact tracing's use of data on citizen movements and interactions.
After three years of recovery, the South African Information Regulator is now requesting the National Department of Health (NDoH) to comply with its requirements for the deletion and de-identification of personal data handled during the epidemic.
