In this episode of Indaba Insights, a collaboration between Deep Learning Indaba and iAfrikan, we speak with Dr Dina Machuve, founder of DevData Analytics.
Dr Machuve shares how her team is using data science to help small scale poultry farmers detect chicken diseases early through KaPU Chunguza, an offline, Kiswahili Android app that identifies disease risks by analysing photos of chicken droppings. Now being rolled out in Tanzania, the solution is helping farmers protect their flocks, incomes, and food security.
Dr Machuve in discussion with iAfrikan editor Bataung Qhotsokoane
She also reflects on her journey from academia into entrepreneurship, and what it really takes to turn research into practical, real world impact.
