Chinese company, Huayou Cobalt, has said that it will stop buying cobalt from individuals in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The decision is in response to child labor concerns which have been mounting from its customers and human rights groups.
Several families in the Democratic Republic of Congo have filed a lawsuit in the USA against Big Tech companies for benefitting from cobalt child mining. Apple, Tesla, Alphabet (owners of Google), Dell, and Microsoft have been named as defendants.
