In a first for Standard Chartered Bank in Afrika, they have opened what they call their first digital bank on the continent in C么te d鈥橧voire. In attendance at the launch of Standard Chartered's digital bank was also famous footballer from C么te d鈥橧voire, Didier Drogba.

Drogba commented on how easy it was to open an account using his mobile phone. According to Standard Chartered, he was the first person in C么te d鈥橧voire to open a digital account at the Bank.

鈥淲e are pleased to launch our first digital bank in Africa with the support of the Government of C么te d鈥橧voire. This is a key milestone on our digital journey as a Bank and underlines our commitment to investing and growing in the market. We have been steadily investing in expanding our footprint in Africa over the years, and this will continue to be a priority moving forward. Digitising Africa remains at the heart of our business strategy for the region, and we look to implement our C么te d鈥橧voire model across other markets in the coming months,鈥 said Sunil Kaushal, Regional CEO for Afrika and Middle East at Standard Chartered.

Bruno Nabagn茅 Kone, C么te d'Ivoire's Minister of Information Technologies and Communications, was the guest of honour at the launch event which was also attended by dignitaries, business leaders, clients and senior management of the bank. Drogba was also announced as Standard Chartered's digital ambassador,

One of the key achievements, as a result of the digital bank experience, is that the client onboarding process has been digitized and clients can open a new account in under 15 minutes.
